David Arnold

President

David Arnold is anything but boring. In fact, there are so many interesting facts about his colorful past, it’s hard to choose just one or two.

For example, he has studied Eastern culture and aesthetics specializing in wabi-sabi (the Japanese art of flawed beauty and imperfection) and has also studied and attained mutiple levels in Ikabana from the Ichiyo school . David's father was also a Methodist minister who ran moonshine (but never on Sundays). Lord knows the man had to feed 3 hungry boys.

David is an accomplished artist in oils as well as ceramics (he has pieces in the Smithsonian). He’s had one-man shows in galleries from New York to Florida, and has had work commissioned by numerous private collectors, including Halle Berry, Hamilton Jordan and Charlie Gibson. He has studed with abstract impessionist Robert Motherwell from Stanford University, Toshiko Takaezu from Princeton University and Paul Soldner from Scripts College.  He’s also worked as a professional photographer, shooting for Saks Fifth Avenue, Women’s Wear Daily and many Fortune 1000 companies.

He started The Partnership in 1977, and two of his original clients are still clients today.

David also loves to win (SEC football anyone?). An accomplished equestrian, he rode competitively for nine years, winning several national championships and top five rankings in the world championships, and entered the Olympic trials for the Beijing Olympics in Reining. He also studied with Monty Roberts the original Horse Whisperer and sometimes uses those same mind bending tricks on humans, but just for good not evil. David’s also won over 200 national and international awards for his work in film and print, and was voted one of the “Top 100 Most Creative People in America.” He also holds 10 U.S. Patents for inventions created for internet marketing automation.

David has also just co-created a new one of a kind geo-digital platform tool for best customer targeting called Dandelion. Dandelion acts as an interrupter to internet shopping for retailers and informs media buying decisions against specific consumer behavior for up to 3 years.

Of course these days, David’s competitive streak is fed by winning business both for the agency and his clients. He believes the best way to accomplish that is to offer a full range of integrated services—digital marketing, design, and advertising communications.

He runs The Partnership with a firm hand on the reins (must be that equestrian thing), and has helped guide many accounts to greatness over the years, including BellSouth, Dow Chemical, Monsanto, Wrangler, Kimberly-Clark, InterContinental Hotels Group, Amoco ,Russell Athletics, Ferrari, Maserati, FDIC, and many more.

Last but not least, he’s on the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Matt Capobianco

Chief Marketing Officer

Matt has spent his career fostering successful relationships across a wide spectrum of industries. The 16 years that have made up his professional life have been focused on creating action at various points in a consumer journey. The work has spanned many disciplines such as brand building, shopper marketing, and sports marketing, with each providing new ways to think about a partner’s business.

Matt believes that creating meaningful, long-term relationships in this world, you must first genuinely care about your partners' success. That may sound like a cliché, but it’s a proposition that requires consistent action that partners see daily.   It’s a belief that has allowed him to deliver solutions to clients such as Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Company, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Caterpillar, Powerade, and many more.

Matt is a proud graduate of Florida State University, and because his life at the time wasn’t hectic enough with two small children, he also achieved an MBA from the University of Mississippi in his spare time. These days he doesn’t have spare time, so outside of work you’ll find him at his kids' events in hockey rinks and tennis courts across the south. He looks forward to taking a nap in 2033.

Larry Washington

Executive Creative Director

Larry brings the best of both worlds to The Partnership with two decades of award winning creative communication and strategic planning under his belt. Larry spent the first part of his career as an art director and writer on the hunt for fame and glory: his work has been praised by publications like Archive, Creativity, Scientific American and USA Today, and he’s guided clients like Kohler, Toshiba, Boeing, BASF and Grainger to name a few.

He soon developed a belief that his work should create things that cause positive change for others. For the past decade, Larry has established a deep understanding of the nuts and bolts of building brands through strategy, communication, sustainable thinking, and social science. He has developed and built brands that stretch across the world and changed local markets for good. He is a firm believer in the power of companies to change the world for the better and is focused on helping them do just that. His experience has allowed him to influence, guide and craft language and thinking for some of the largest companies in the world.

Larry makes sure his work life and personal life philosophies live in harmony (we spend half our life at work after all). So, he lives and works by his philosophy of & which, simply put, means to always give more than is expected.

J.P. Maier

EVP, Government Markets

Our Government Compliance team is led by John "J.P." Maier. A former federal contracting officer with a current COR rating, J.P. has over 30 years of experience in government contract management.

For example, while working for the Department of Homeland Security, he was a critical resource on a $7.2 billion five-year digital map modernization/GIS project, the largest funded project in FEMA’s history.

His implementation of a quality assurance/quality control process reduced the error and delay rate by 300% and saved $5 million in its first year alone. He routinely briefed governors, congressional and White House staffers on outreach program development and shared techniques for success.

Not surprising, considering J.P.’s multiple advanced degrees—PhDs in Organizational Psychology, Policy and Procedure and a JD in Contract Law as well as dual Masters in Management and Education Leadership. He’s also a Distinguished Toastmaster and a Master Freemason.

J.P. is also very proud to have served in the active duty Air Force for almost 13 years, achieving the title of Superintendent of Services for the Strategic Air Command.

Thornton Kennedy

Public Relations

Thornton Kennedy is a natural born story teller, a skilled plate spinner, a recovering journalist, a newspaper columnist and a PR guy.

He started his career in the newsroom while still in college.  After his last class each day at Belmont Abbey College, he’d head over to the Gaston Gazette in Gastonia, N.C. to the compile the nightly sports scores, help edit the and layout the pages and run the last check of the paper before it went to print. He remained in the newsroom for more than a decade, most recently as an editor with the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

He still writes a well-read weekly column for the community paper. You can take a boy out of the country, as they say.

He made the leap public relations in 2011, working with leading companies crafting and executing communications and content strategies throughout the southeast and midwest. This includes a $1.5BB luxury multi-family program; an Atlanta-based wealth advisory firm’s expansion to New York, Boston and Houston; and working with the largest independent multifamily company in the country among many others.

Thornton is involved in the community and has served in several capacities with the Atlanta Opera, the Atlanta History Center, the Atlanta Humane Society and the Trust for Public Land. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Atlanta Preservation Center and the Atlanta Music Festival Committee.

He is an avid reader — he earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a local history nerd. He and his wife live in Buckhead with their two children and several rescue pets.
